Hello Alastair,
I hope this email finds you well. Almost 20
years ago I sent you a poem that you posted on your website, “Electric
Scotland” , titled, “The Cockstan of Finegand”. I much appreciate it.
Here is another one with a Scottish flair
and tone. Feel free, if you wish, to post it.
Much thanks,
Danny Lawrence Elliott
Ma Ancestral Hame
Ma hert lies in
ma ancestral hame,
whaur the thistle grows wild on the heath.
In fields that hae kent them since birth,
streams whaur they learned hoo tae breathe.
Towering mountains watch o’er the Glen,
carry stories of auld, whispered in stane.
Past o' fierce battles, a people revered,
a place whaur family an' foe hae grown.
The wind as it sweeps 'cross the moors,
brings a sang o' a' whae came afore.
Wha cherished this land, beauty an' lore,
a place they fund peace an' prosperity.
Every blade o' grass, every towering tree,
every shimmering leaf an' wandering bee,
Whispers a story o' days gane by,
o' love an' laughter, o' tears an' sighs.
Wi' each passin' breeze, echoes Ah hear,
wars fought an' deep wounds still appear.
Heroes, noo just memories in time,
their spirit lives on in this land sublime.
This is the place ma hert calls hame,
a pairt o' ma legacy forever tae roam.
Tae walk this land, tae breathe its air,
Is tae feel yin’s soul, free o' life’s care.
For though the land may change an' grow,
Through it a', its essence will flow.
An unbroken chain, frae past tae present,
A legacy o' love an' time well spent.
So let ma heart be forever bound,
ma ancestral land, ma roots are found.
For in its embrace, forever a hame,
Never tae wander, never tae roam.
