Mansions, Hillhead, Glasgow, Scotland on July 18, 1893 to Charles Alexander
Buchanan, born Ireland c. 1863, and Mary Catherine Kay, born Ayr, Ayrshire,
Scotland on 19 March, 1861.

Edmund enlisted to fight in
World War 1 and became a distinguished leader of men, as a Lieutenant/
Captain/ Major, winning, among other medals, the Military Cross for vital
patrol work that brought important strategic information to his Commanding
Officer. Thereafter, although he suffered severe chest wounds at the Battle
of Loos, he was twice Mentioned In Dispatches. He then also served in
Salonika.

and WW2 he married Doreen Marguerita Bury in 1926 in Wellington, Somerset,
England and they had three sons ... Neil Anselan Buchanan in a British
Consulate abroad in 1927; Patrick Bury Buchanan in Cambusbarron, Stirling,
Scotland in 1929; and Nigel Walter Buchanan in Cambusbarron, Stirling,
Scotland in 1933.

Alexander Buchanan, died in Stirling on the 18th of November, 1936, and his
mother died in Surrey, England in December, 1943.

In WW2, as CO of the 7th
Argyll and Southern Highlanders, Edmund notably, as part of the BEE, helped
to resist German advances for a while along the Somme.
However, he, and many of his men, were captured at St Valery in 1940, and
spent five years as POWs in Offlag 7C at Mulhausen, until released by the
Americans in April, 1945.
Capt. Neil Anselan Buchanan,
1st Bn Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, first son of Col. and Mrs E. P.
Buchanan of Touch. was educated at Cargilfield School, St Andrews and Rugby.
He was commissioned in 1947 and served in Palestine and Hong Kong. On 6
September 1950, while approaching a Korean village, his 14-man patrol came
under heavy fire on three sides. Two men were killed and at least five
wounded. Buchanan, hit in both legs, ordered the patrol to withdraw, leaving
him behind as carrying him would make them too vulnerable. Armed with a Bren
gun, he enabled his patrol to escape by fighting a single-handed rearguard
action until overwhelmed. The ground was later regained, but no trace of him
was found. He was posthumously awarded the American Silver Star. Aged 23.
