Friends of
Fallbrook,
Your
founding board (Jim, Joan, Wayne and Sandy) wish to apologize for being
so late in getting back to you. First, we trust that you all enjoyed a
family holiday season and that all find health and satisfaction in the
New Year. We also hope that all are able to weather the planetary
financial crisis with as little damage as possible. For Fallbrook, our
resolution is to advance to designation and begin renovation based on
the Murison Report (Update no. 13 on the
electricscotland website). We have begun fruitful discussions with the
Credit Valley Conservation and are building a strong working
relationship with the Ontario Heritage Trust. We shall begin our updates
with the letters of support which have been sent to Mayor Richard
Bennett and Halton Hills City Council and the Minister of Culture Aileen
Carroll. So wet your appetite with these and a complete update will be
forthcoming.

The
pictures show the Kirkwood clan visiting their family burial plot at the
Belfountain Cemetary. You see Donald McKay's great grandchildren Jim
(captain's hat), Alan (red shirt), Marion Smeaton and Marion Kirkwood.
We wish
also to acknowledge our appreciation to Alastair McIntyre of Electric
Scotland for his unconditional support since november,2008 and his
computer wizardry. A small community group like ours does not have the
resources to accomplish what Alastair has. We now know how successful is
the information he circulates.
 
Here is the support letter from
Michiel Horn, Historian Emeritus, York
University, renowned Canadian historian and my mentor during those
formative years of social strife in the sixties. From whom I was first
introduced to real history based on the significant struggles of the
unsung heroes and communities.
In the
Fallbrook Buggy picture taken in 1921 Donald McKay with the white beard
beside his granddaughter aunt Rachel and her brother Kenneth Alexander.
Donald's oldest, Sandy, is in the buggy. The bridge,a traditional
highlander structure, was built by the McKay,s from stones recycled from
the original mill. It is part of the Murison proposal for designation
but its fate is uncertain.
