OR, The Lives of the most
eminent persons who have flourished in Great Britain and Ireland from
the earliest ages, down to the present times. Collected from the best
Authorities, both Printed and Manuscript, and digested in the Manner of
Mr Bayle's Historical and Critical Dictionary.
It took just 20 years for me to discover this set of biographies
(published in 1744) and you should note that it uses the old spelling
where the letter "s" is written as the letter "f". For example the word
"such" is written as "fuch" or "present" is written as "prefent" or
"presume" is written as "prefume" or "published" is written as "publifhed"
etc. While at first it makes this a little difficult to read you'll find
you quickly get used to it.
I note that the only two
Mac entries seem to be MacKenzie and MacLaurin so looks to be a bit
bereft of information on Scottish clan names starting with M.
