In this part of Canada
there is a huge history about the Underground railroad where slaves in the
USA were helped to escape to Canada. The various museums all have
loads of historical material that can help people find genealogical
information on their families. I note that quite a few Scots were involved
and I hope to bring you some stories of them at a later date.
On the way we went through
North Buxton and the route does take you through some excellent fishing
areas and wee ports...
There are several places
you can purchase fresh fish and as you'll have noted above some more fine
beaches to relax on.
And now we arrive at the
Buxton National Historic Site & Museum as you can see by the sign below.
Some of these pictures are quite large where I felt the extra detail was
worth exploring.
Here we were given a wee talk about the Museum
As you can see the museum is packed full of
items to see and facts to explore
This is a cabin of the period that has been
moved to the site and will be dressed with more exhibits of the period. It
might be interesting to note that this cabin was being lived in as a home
up to 1998 I think they said.
Next to the center is the local church and
school
I also picked up a couple
of brochures which I've scanned it for you to read...
The museum staff were most
helpful and informative and it really is well worth a visit. |
