Our genealogical account of
the prominent Scotsman, Peter Galloway Fraser (1862-1925), starts with
the births and marriage of his parents, John Fraser of Ballingry, Fife,
and Ann Kinmont of Kinfauns, Perth ...... and then his own birth.
From the 1871 Census it
appears that in 1871 Peter Galloway Fraser had at least one brother and
three sisters.
After completing his
school education in Dundee, and then his university studies in Glasgow,
we find that by 1890 he is working as a Journalist in London, but indeed
comes back to Scotland to marry in Dundee.
Meantime by the 1891
Census, his parents are living in Lyon Street, Dundee, and father John
has become a Sawyer.
Meanwhile the married
couple appear in the 1891 Census for Upper Tooting in London.
In 1896, John Fraser, son
of Crofter George Fraser of Fife, dies in Muirhead, Liff and Benvie,
Forfarshire.
By the 1901 Censuses,
Widow Ann (Kinmont) Fraser is living on 'independent means' with her
daughter Joan in Liff, and Peter Galloway Fraser (Journalistic Editor),
his wife 'Bessie' (Elizabeth) and their son and two daughters are
resident in Strawberry Hill Road, Twickenham, London.
Then, Peter's mother, Ann
(Kinmont) Fraser dies aged 79 in Muirhead, Liff and Benvie, Forfarshire.
The final chapter in
Galloway's life is gleaned from the following 1911 Census, and the
notices of his death and probate in 1925, in which last, he left a
substantial sum of money to 'Bessie' his widow.
As a tribute to the man,
in recognition of his leisure time love of poetry, there follows here,
an ongoing mini-biography, that appeared with two of his poems in the
1890s.
