STRATHEDEN,
Baroness, a title in the peerage of the united kingdom, conferred in
1836, on Mary Elizabeth Campbell, eldest daughter of the first Lord
Abinger (Sir James Scarlett) by the third daughter of Peter Campbell,
Esq. of Kilmorey, Argyleshire. Born in 1796, she married in 1821, John,
first Lord Campbell. The Stratheden peerage was created with remainder
to the heirs male of her ladyship by Lord Campbell. She died March 25,
1860. Stratheden is in Fifeshire, her husband’s native country. |
