SORBY, or SORBIE, the surname of an ancient Galloway family, who owned the lands of Sorby, which now form the parish of Sorbie, Wigtownshire. The Hannays, another ancient Galloway family, originally names De Anneth and Ahannay, succeeded them in the possession. See HANNAY.
