"The Scottish American
Society of Canyon County Idaho held it's first annual National Tartan
Day observance on 1 April 2006.
The Society had
designed a tartan for the local County Sheriff Department. It was
woven and is registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority in Crieff,
Perthshire.
Pictured L to R, Kate Mckay Robertson,
weaver; Society President Tim Cayler of Clan Shaw; and Canyon county
Sheriff Chris Smith.
The colors of the
tartan are black for the color of the Departmental uniform, light
brown for the color of weathered asphalt, red for remembrance of lives
lost in the line of duty, and white for honor and integrity of law
enforcement.
This was the first-ever
organized observance of National Tartan Day in the state of Idaho.
Idaho state Senator
Joyce Broadsword was the guest Mistress of Ceremonies. She had
recently sponsored a measure through state legislature, declaring NTD
to be an officially recognized observance in Idaho.
The presentation of the
tartan to the Sheriff and his staff members was moving and heart-felt
by all."
Regards,
Tim Cayler of Clan Shaw
President
