We should acknowledge that a
number of Scots and Scots Irish were slave owners. That being said I feel we
should explore this area as I believe that many Scots that came to America
were cleared from their lands and as such went through much hardship in
Scotland before heading to America.
If you look at how these
crofters were treated in that time period the conditions were awful.
Many starved and their homes were no more that hovels. This being the
case I do wonder how these people that went to America and became slave
owners would have treated their slaves as in my opinion they were little
more than slaves themselves back in Scotland.
Research in this area is
difficult as so much has been deleted due to not allowing the "N-g--" word
to be used on pages on the web.
