Attached is a .pdf (tidied-up) of ‘Literary
Landmarks Of Edinburgh’ – published in NY in1891 …. by Laurence
Hutton (1843,NY-1904,NY) son of John Hutton born in Scotland in 1808 who
emigrated to USA before 1843. It is a super wee book …. well written and
illustrated, by a man who was a legend in his lifetime, and who is still
revered in antiquarian circles today.
I
was so intrigued by yet another with rich Scots blood in his veins ….[ his
maternal grandfather was also a Scot ]…… doing our country proud, that I
spent the afternoon researching him, as you will see from the load of
attachments.
He
even has a sketch in the book that has special significance for me ….
Smollett’s House in St John Street, which is clearly recognisable as what
became our ‘Staff House’ at Moray House College of Education, for staff
socialising/dining etc., …… before, and all during the 20 years that I was a
lecturer there 1974-1994.
