Poems of my cousin, Ura May
Catch a Falling Star

Crepe paper runners over the table,
All the young people that were able
Shined with a needed fun time,
Gone were the weeks of work and grime.

There were the youthful women,
With a night out and that was given,
When Ura May opened the spaces,
Of tables covered with laces.

Music rang loud, free and easy,
Out on the prairie, summer night, breezy.
I felt a little alone and away far,
Until I heard Perry Como’s “Catch a Falling Star.”

She knew it was my very favorite,
When and how had she purchased that hit?
I helped her plan everything, I thought,
She was sneaky, never told me when it was bought.

“Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away!
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day.

For love may come to tap you on the shoulder,
Some star-less night!
Just in case you feel you wanna’ hold her,
You’ll have a pocket full of starlight.
