The Red River - Picture by Faye Heffinton
"From this valley they say you
are leavin,"
This is the how the old song goes,
It was only the wailin' of a cowboy grieving,
People split the Red River in droves.
The times they were rough and tumble.
Folks were looking to Oklahoma's land run,
Straight as a crow flies, with not a stumble.
Red River Valley left behind, no more fun.
All that is of the memories there,
Are the lilting words of that song,
"Remember the Red River Valley," where
He stayed and she went on along.
