Bellzona's Picture Book
The Brewer's - The
Hymnal |
This little hymnal has a lovely story to tell
all its own. It is a story about the love these women had for each
other and for their children. There was an old poem Bellzona saved
which said, "she would have died for her sons."
Velma Jones, Bellzona's daughter in law said, "that told the
story about Bellzona, she would have too." This is nothing
unusual or rare but rather is very much what the women all did. They
fought lonely battles, fortified with a Bible and if fortunate a hymnal
like this. They trusted in a higher power to take them through the
struggles of the early days before super markets, day care,
women's rights, and even counselors. Some of the other things saved of
Elizabeth Brewer Collins, Mrs Nathaniel Stewart Collins were old fragile
one page letters, her old Bible, and a few pictures. Her mother, America
Brewer, Mrs. John Brewer is on the 1870 census at Bolivar, Missouri, Polk
county.
