Nancy Bellzona's Picture Book
Osage Wedding - Osage Wedding Party, March 20, 1920

Osage Wedding Party, March 20, 1920They must all indicate happiness. The bear relatives must be extremely pleasant to the visiting Eagle, and the Eagle must act as courteously as guests are supposed to act. The Bear relatives must donate food for the feasts, and the Eagle relatives must make their donations as well. This must be so if they wanted the marriage to be a success. Quarreling, frowning, acting surly would not be propitious, and the young people might start out under a cloud.

The above taken from John Joseph Matthew's, "The Osages."

This blanket is properly worn with one arm left free in order to perform chores, cooking and such.

The following information was tediously and lovingly compiled by Esther Inez Jones Epperson, younger daughter of Lee Otis Jones.

The girl on the right is Thelma Collins, the daughter of William Matthew Collins, brother to Nancy Bellzona Collins Jones.

This is the genealogy of Bell and Uncle Bill: Nancy Bellzona Collins Jones was born 1-8-1871 at Harrison, Arkansas, Boone county. She died 9-9-1945 at Foraker, Oklahoma Osage county. She was married to Joseph Hubbard Jones, who was born 1863, Valley Springs, Arkansas. He died 1955, February 1, Tonkawa, Ok. Kay county. Bell and William (Bill) were the children of Nathaniel Stewart Collins, born 5/19/1845 at Powell, Tennessee. Nathan's wife, Elizabeth Ann Brewer Collins was born 2/19/1844. She died 11/4/1926 at Ralston, Oklahoma.

Nathaniel Stewart Collins was the son of Jesse Lee Collins who was born in North Carolina. Jesse's wife, Polly Ann (Mary) Howard was born 1829 in Georgia. Polly Ann died 8/2/1902. Nathan's wife, Elizabeth Ann was the daughter of John Brewer. John Brewer died 1865, Polk county, Missouri. John Brewer was married to Mary America Hunter. America is shown on the Benton township census rolls, Polk county, Mo. along with their children after John's death.

John Brewer was the son of Jacob and Eda Brewer. Jacob was born 1795 in Georgia.

Returning to the Collins side, Jesse Lee Collins, father of Nathan was the son of Thomas Duren Collins and Wineford Walter, Tennessee. Jesse's wife, Polly was the daughter of William Howard and Annie Blaylock 1816, North Carolina. Thomas Duren Collins was the son of Ruben Collins and Monica Duren.

Genealogy of Joseph Herbert Jones, husband of Bell: Jo was the son of William Stephens Jones who was born 1833 in Alabama. He died at Bartlesville and is buried at Hennesey, Ok. William's wife, Mary Ann DeWitt Jones was born in Tennessee on December 17, 1835. She died August 1891, Bartlesville, Ok.

William Stephens Jones was the son of William Henry (Beaver) Jones. William Beaver Jones's wife was Rhoda Hollaway. She was born January 24, 1823 in Madison county, Alabama.

William Henry Beaver Jones was the son of William "Wily" Jones and Mary Matthews. She was born February 15, 1783, Wake county, North Carolina. If there seems to be repetitions please understand these are necessary to cross check for accuracy.

The Mathews name is well-respected today with the Osage people. John Joseph Matthew's recording of their histories is a valuable tool in understanding the ancient culture. With this knowledge one can understand why Lee Otis Jones held so tenaciously to these pictures, throughout his life. He saw the value of a recorded pictorial history in them.
