Donna's Poems
Paralysis and a Mother's Lament
by Donna Flood

You with strong legs, walk away from me.
Let your strong arms swim that cold sea,
Uncrippled body and you are free,
Lips and mouth,  strong;  take a country.

Leave me here beside this one of destiny,
Whose rigid  body rests on her tender knee.
Don't listen or hear her cry of agony.
Her courage is classic, no expression of plea.

She can't speak well, reads haltingly in place,
Still she studied well her book of grace,
Learned of her Great Teacher's Face,
Committed to Baptism in true belief's space.

With a smile, ready, willing to warm a heart,
Gave more courage than others could impart,
Never complained of ostracism's dart.
