As generous as he was in
real life,
Caring for an artist's widowed wife,
His palette and brush was conservative,
No wasted motion or hurried brush,
His work could not have been in a rush.
To canvas he held his brush forty-five degree angle,
Carefully stippled the colors for branches tangle.
His mother color was yellow ochre,
Princess of all the earth color.
On his palette colors were well mixed,
Placed on canvas and forever fixed.

Corot never laid his brush flat on the canvas
in a marking motion. Every stroke was stippled. This is what gives the
very soft lines, that and the colors always having a mother color, yellow
ochre, added. |
