My book has taken me to
many places and this was one of the most interesting. I enjoyed meeting
these folks and it was a wonderful banquet of vegetarian food we had at
the Royal Chinese cafe. The two Buddist nuns pictured here were actually
just girls but very much respected by their people. The cafe donated the
food that evening in their honor, which I thought was a generous and
respectful gesture
since there were quite a few people present.
They were interested in my tribe's traditions which really cannot be
covered in such a short time but I was able to tell them something of our
mutual practices being that the Ponca people were peaceful and didn't go
out for war, even though they did defend their families if the need arose
(and it did since their neighbors were the Sioux).
Thankful to my niece for sending it, else I would have never seen it.
