Donna's Journal
August 9, 2006

My neighbor called to tell me he spent time in the emergency room after, he collapsed from the heat. I think this is a warning for me but I already know the sun is more than I can endure. He said one of the symptoms is dizziness. That isn’t helpful to know when someone is dizzy all the time but then he must have meant, literally.

With daily watering the flower beds have endured and the new hedge planted across the front is just surviving. With trying to contribute to our daughter’s schooling in small ways the usual 200 dollars a year spent on landscaping has been foregone for the last few years. However, her husband bought and helped install fence across the front and back, so all things considered this is equal to what I would have spent on landscaping. To make up for not purchasing any plants I have transplanted a number of things from off the property and that will have to do.

After one of the neighbor’s Rottweiler killed our little King Charles Cavalier Spaniel I almost can’t bring my heart into making this property attractive for the neighbor’s pleasure. I threatened to rent out the wide front to a used car junk dealer but thought that was a bit radical. Instead we found a little statue that looks just like Peaches and I plan to plant some yellow tulips there. Peaches won’t care and that is the color for cowardly big dogs who kill weak, small things. Also, a melodic wind chime hangs close along with a small wind chime of bumble bees in memory of the time she saved the little ones from one of their hidden nests by discovering it. Those who are driving by are rewarded with good for evil as we are instructed, from the Scriptures, to do. Bravery in an animal who wasn’t intimidated by size is something worth remembering, I believe. The fence she inspired with her death will keep the Rottweiler off the property where our two year old plays.
