There are not enough words to
tell you what a joy my mailing list has been. Since my husband has retired,
I'm not totally shut in but still must be on call around here. Why didn't I
have this little machine during the hardest of times when my cerebral
palsied daughter was young and the grief of it was heavy upon me?
We, my husband and I, had a
bit of a disagreement with no words, of course. When this man told me he
didn't want me to plan any more book signing at the present time I was very
upset but managed not to open my mouth. “Why shucks! I've been having such a
good time!” I thought. “WELL! I haven't had so much fun since I was sixteen
and driving for my uncle while he made contacts on the road with his
artifacts and Indian Souvenirs.” Somewhat dejected and more than a little
subdued I simply got into the car to make an appointment I had in town. I
drove over the new sleek Big Snake Bridge where the river was rushing below
me, now in plain sight. This always lightens my mood even though the
graffiti artists have been at work on the inviting bare spans of the bridge.
Quietly I prayed, “Lord! Show
me why I must respect the head of the house?” Out of the corner of my eye,
along the road, I can see the biggest, fattest, racoon I have ever seen,
totally dead as road kill. I'm thinking, “Well, Lord, I guess some people
just have to be shown.”
At any rate, I came home,
deliberated on a plan of action and it occurred to me that even though I
must tip toe through the spam control, deal with strangers who delight in
sending viruses and whatever else I will simply advertise over the computer
and that will be the end of it. The book signing brings the greatest reward
since the money is in my hand rather than having to wait forever for a small
royalty every six months, but, oh well.......
I know my husband is very
much right about his decision. This world is fraught with too many variables
which can be dangerous, without a doubt, and even though I have walked
through every risk during my life there is always that one time. I've never
been one for gamble anyway even though I came from the Joneses who made it
an art form.
Here is the URL for a book
company who is stocking my book. If you would send it to the people on your
mailing list and ask them to do the same I promise to keep up the run of
stories and whatever other diversions to pull your mind, for a moment, away
from the heavies of your life.
Thanks so much,
