Publish America, my
publishing company, is giving me a step by step direction for promoting my
own book. So many authors who have gone before me share the ways they
promoted their book, too. With only a few days into getting started, I'm
finding, there is definitely much to learn.
There have been three
short ten, to fifteen minute talks at different groups and that gets me out
of the house which is what must be done. This is not exactly my cup of tea
since there are always things to do at home. Only two days into my
self-appointed schedule, and it has become evident much has been happening
that was unknown to me.
The editor of a small
newspaper, The Herald, at Newkirk, Oklahoma, pointed me to the director of
the Mainstreet Historical Society. A small living room looking space of a
by-gone era at the front of the building greeted me as I walked in off the
street. Her office adjoined this and was, of course, modern with functioning
equipment. When I mentioned the beauty of the antique entry room she told me
it was to let people know the purpose of their office which is the
preservation of history.
As it turns out, this
is where I will be giving a presentation for the up coming tour of Chilocco
on March 10, 2005. We will return from the tour to this place where the
group will have at least three speakers telling about the buildings on the
grounds along with whatever they remember about their time at the old
boarding school standing so alone on the prairie at this present time.
We then drove on up to
the edge of Arkansas City, Kansas where the Cherokee Strip Museum is
located. What a pleasant surprise to see how very large it has become. The
exhibits were so numerous it would take days to enjoy the whole thing
completely. They probably will schedule me to do my book signing in the fall
during one of their celebrations. Memorabilia from Chilocco was nice.
Rhonda and I both had a shivering cold experience as we walked past a very
old surrey. We both were suddenly aware of it. What was that?
A book store in town
gave me a signing during October Arkalalah. |
