It has been so long ago I've mostly forgotten,
That old road leading up to the house.
We slowly walked it daily from school with a friend,
And the dustiness of it was just like powder.
I can still feel the warmth of the silty stuff
Through my toes from shoes off carefree,
While we trudged up this little bluff,
It was step and step one at a time.
Go back, way back, compare on past this rhyme
We shuffled slowly toward our goal,
With a mind so free of visions and time,
Six miles at day to school was a simple task. |
