The family of Velma Jones will host a potluck luncheon
at 1 p.m., Jan. 15 in the White Eagle Tribal Affairs building in
observance of her 93rd birthday. She was born Jan. 15, 1913, near the 101
Ranch. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
Among her achievements are serving as interpreter of
the Ponca language, owning her own business, serving as director of a
satellite center for Oklahoma Indian Opportunity, and perfecting her
ribbonwork talents, with her work on display in a museum. She managed the
VISTA program, and hosted dignitaries and their families in her home. She
was named as one of the outstanding Indian women in the state, and has
been consistent in her volunteer work.
