Donna's Poems
Depression

Well hello, Depression, my old friend,
I see you've come by again.
There was a time I dreaded your step
On my threshold kept.
These are my years of a wiser thought
I know why you have been brought.
Once I hated the way you rattled my cage,
Today, I know it is nothing more than my wage.
A time when my tired mind has fought every circle,
Even prayed for a miracle.
At last the winding down of defeat,
Weary and wan I realize this retreat,
Was not one of the coward's lament,
Only wisdom teaching a way lent,
For learning after all there is a time for resting.
Accept what can't be changed as a blessing
Picking up the pieces of bright, shining good things,
And everything else real life brings.
The stars, the moon,
The sunlight in my room.
Tiny blossom in spring's snow,
Delicate leaves that green and grow.
A sprinkling of wild roses on the vine,
A taste of sweet elderberry wine.
I'll damn you no more old friend's face,
For even you have brought me grace.
