These small hand towels are
made from a fabric that is absorbent When ever a fabric is on sale for
one or another reason I buy it. The challenge of finding a way to use the
fabric is what I enjoy. This darker hand towel is a waffle weave and
consequently makes a nice hand towel.
Cut a rectangle 15 inches
by 17 inches. Make a two inch hem at the top. Hem the edges. Crochet
around by making a chain and attaching it after you crochet a chain of
nine stiches. Crochet and attaching this chain to the fabric about every
one inch on the fabric. You can go around three sides leaving the top
plain.
If you can't crochet at
least learn this chain stich. It is so easy I usually teach the children
to do this with their fingers.
Make the braid by measuring
two feet strands of yarn. Make ten lengths. You can take one end of these
lengths of yarn, put a large safety pin on it and run it through the deep
hem on one side of the towel. Double the yarn after you get it through the
hem, gather the top of the towel by pulling the yarn tight, and then
separate the strands into a set of three and braid it. Tie the braid off
well. This braid is what you will hang the towel on a hook or rack in the
bathroom.
These little towels are
easy to make and you will be able to have enough to change your hand
towel often. I do. Hand washing and using a clean towel encourages this
healthy practice. The cost of these is practically nothing if you have
been careful to pay very little for sale fabric. Of course, they are nice
for gifts, too.
