We lived in a large old
house in Norman, Oklahoma when first married. In that house I used large
pieces of furniture like this but when we moved to an apartment in Dallas
these were too large so we sold it all. As we went through one sofa after
another I, in the back of my mind, wished for these earlier pieces and
determined to purchase them if I ever found any. Over the years this
western style went out and no matter how much I looked there were never
any to be found. Last week I ran on to this piece at the Salvation Army. I
was elated. We brought this home, sanded it down, stained it with an old
English Oak color and put three coats of Varathane over that. Rodney
replaced the broken seat and back with new wood. Now with those cushions
used for summer patio furniture we will have a heavy, durable rocking
chair. This is what I've wanted for so long. The wooden arms are easily
waxed with furniture polish and: therefore, always clean. Usually cushions
for outdoor patio furniture have tough, heavy fabric that can easily be
wiped clean.
