Once you covered a living
thing,
Now you are stretched on this ring.
A canvas for artist's brush and paint,
Someone to maybe, admire as "quaint."
Retired from serving, you have been,
Once a coat wrapping warmth all about, my friend.
So, you see, it isn't without respect to touch this skin,
With color, light and dark, there to blend.
May you continue to bring pleasure to our way,
For a few more years hang around and stay.
And, although this is only an image of life, living,
Thankful we are for the thought of nature's giving. |
