Beautiful child so full of sweet mirth,
Happiness and a wish to please from birth,
When I see your hesitation,
A remembered long ago has visitation,
Of when the world was a new place,
Rewarding me with a wondrous space.
Fireflies were such a marvelous creation,
Promising me all these unanswered revelation,
Of something so grand and rewarding,
Letting us catch something bordering,
On mystery and nothing explained easily away,
But another world, another time night's stay.
A feather's flight on a draft,
That ray of light in a shaft,
Crystals of sand, sugar, even rocks,
Those so many shapes of each different clocks,
Sweet perfume, of all life and joy,
A bird's song, a gifted toy,
Yes, my little one I remember it well,
And see it all again through your eye,
We share these things, forever and by and by.
