Donna's Poems
Caretaker

Tiny little birds, caught in a net,
Not old enough to fly yet.

Maybe there is a bird heaven somewhere,
Surely there is someone who will care.

Funny little frogs, plopping in a pool,
No one told them it wasn't cool.

Is there a spirit or a frog prince,
Maybe he will come, but from whence.

Sweet miniature bunnies in the yard,
Their hopping is clumsy, looks "hard".

"Avoid that raging dog!" Please tell them.
Who wants them to know, he's no friend?

Bright butterflies setting on a flower,
You know it's getting colder by the hour.

It must be that even they have a maker,
If not that, at least a caretaker.

Caretakers will run when they must,
Lift a broken little thing out of the dust.

Touch something small and fragile,
Hold close, pray for its ego and will.

Walk, sing, guard, swing, feed,
Caretaker prays daily to meet a need.

Send it home to its Mother again,
Her security, home, safe for a stand.
