Donna's Poems
The Big Oh's

Suddenly and without warning it was the day of the big Oh!
Let me explain to you what I know,
About this foolishness and nothing
For whatever laff it may bring

The big 4 oh, wasn't that bad,
Well, maybe I left the thirties a bit sad,
But, all in all, I handled it well,
Life was busy and only once I fell.

The surgeries, new fear of death,
Slid away, left me bereft,
Of easy living and its gift,
But strength was still there for a lift.

When the big 5 oh came around,
There was a new awareness and sound
Of a soft reminder of cools in the September wind,
And it made me search for the love of a friend.

Well, let me tell, that was nothing compared to 6 oh!
Caught, caught I am in this trap of winter's snow,
Gad!  Which way to turn,
I want nothing of this learn.

Now the days come sauntering through,
Bringing reality check of 7 oh, stew.
What is wrong with me? Am I numb?
All at once I want to pick it, as a plum.

Life is again as it was when I was a teen!
Great! Great! I want to preen,
Is this the attitude I knew of grandmother,
She mysteriously seemed to know something or other.

We had a tie, we did,
Of child and age with no lid
On the joys of life and living,
The world was ours, just for the giving.

Only now I understand,
What a plan!
Life has just begun!
What fun! What fun!
