 1931 Class of Chilocco
The Life of Two Chilocco Students After I sent the Chilocco students pictures out one of my readers said he wondered about the outcome of the lives of these hopeful looking people. The stories I'm sure are there and could be told by their descendants. For my part my Mother, Velma Pensoneau Jones and Ed Pensoneau are the only ones of whom I can speak. Velma is the girl who is wearing the white coat and is sitting on the front row of the orchestra picture. Her brother Edward is in the...

 A Soft Morning
There’s a mist upon the lea, Settles softly for me, There are hanging drops As Zennia leans, no props. The color of the trees are azure Because the haze over is pure. Bright spots of color are the blossom To contrast with the landscape’s sum Of gently blended greens and blues. This sweet, soft morning has,  its clues No dragging hose this day for me “Come soft mist,” I smile, “water for me.”

 Agricultural Drought
Velma pulled the handle of the metal pitcher pump, up and down, a number of times. There was NO flooding of the clear water to gush forth. History already has a name for the year of 1953. They called it the agricultural drought. This is an apt description for what happened. Without warning there was no rainfall. One day followed another with only clear skies, or maybe a small high cloud above them to float along only to tease them with a promise. There was nothing more than that, and soon...

 Alfred Smith's Art Show, Stillwater
July 19, 2008, Alfred's Art Show at StillwaterFor some reason the excellent photographs I took didn't come through and I'm tired of waiting while my electronic engineer husband keeps trying to retrieve them.  I will just have to use 1000 words to describe the Art Show at Exhibit One Gallery in Stillwater, OklahomaHere's a great western music midi page to go with this as you read:http://rosemck1.tripod.com/jukebox-country.html    Years ago I read somewhere that it is the...

 Ancient Sayings
Ancient Ways At 72 I’m so far away from my Ponca grandmother actually very little remains of her wisdom and lore laced metaphors.  However, recently the acquaintance of a Ponca woman brought Grandmother back to me as easily as a curtain blowing in the wind drifts back and forth. Her softly spoken observation catches my attention and the movement of language is like that, you know. To reflect on what is heard but has been brought about by some unseen thought can suddenly bring...

Art is for More Than Just Painting Pictures
Here on the Flood ranchero, using the term loosely, daily routine is stamped into my body and soul to the point of being tedious and monotonous. As a rule, I do love this kind of life, but there are other considerations. Presently the putting together of crafts for a showing at the grandchildren’s school is my discipline. This can be a bit depressing because in this world where so much can be bought at the dollar store it hardly seems worthwhile to do our own small useful articles needed on the...

Art Judge, Blackwell Kay County Fair
September 7-8     China closet is now out of the kitchen area leaving a more open room for my get together this month.      Chores finished:      Round table brought in off the patio, cleaned up and pedestal base painted for more seating places where guests can eat.     Rod touched the ceiling blips in the kitchen with paint and it looks much better. Because of that paint’s odor he only just touched the bad places and...

 At Night A Light
At Night A Light At night a light on the front of a train at far distance, Comes down the track, brighter so we sense, The wonder of the machine's approach, Cars of rail  and some are a coach. We see the faces of those who ride Briefly through the window and inside. Suddenly all is gone, The distance is won, Only the fading sound, of clickity, click remains, Our world is back again, with only to ponder, trains.

 August 14, 2008, Olympics
August 14, 2008-Olmpics     One of my readers asked how I could overlook the fact that the Chinese deceived the public by not telling about the child  singer who was lip sinking.     I’ve thought about this question for a few days.  There are a number of issues involved and too political for me to decipher those.  I will not go back on the statement made about enjoying the culture of the Chinese, which I do, so much.  The intricate...
